Reflections from the Executive Director

Leading CIDBIA has been a lesson in responsibility. The Chinatown–International District is not just a place—it is a living community shaped by small businesses, elders, families, and workers who care deeply about its future.

Over the past year, my focus has been on building systems that are steady and transparent: tracking what we do, being clear about what we can and cannot control, and ensuring that ratepayer dollars are reinvested locally where they matter most. The metrics in this report represent that effort—not as an endpoint, but as a way to be honest about progress and gaps.

This role has reminded me that leadership here means balancing urgency with care. We move forward by listening, adapting, and staying accountable to the people who call this neighborhood home.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement.

Business & Investment

Supporting long-term neighborhood vitality means reinvesting locally.

In 2025:

  • 6 new businesses opened in the district
  • Over $1 million reinvested back into the Chinatown–International District through grant technical assistance, events and services

These investments supported safety, cleaning, events, and coordination efforts that benefit the entire neighborhood.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As activity in the district continues to grow—including major events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup—CIDBIA will continue focusing on:

  • Supplemental safety and sanitation
  • Event coordination and neighborhood readiness
  • Support for businesses and property owners
  • Clear communication and transparency with ratepayers

Save the date for our upcoming signature events next year:

Thank you for supporting a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant Chinatown–International District.

What is CIDBIA?

CIDBIA uses local assessments to provide extra cleaning, safety, and community activities in the Chinatown–International District.

These services supplement City baseline services—they do not replace them. All assessment funds are reinvested directly back into the district to address local needs.

CIDBIA is overseen by a Ratepayer Advisory Board, ensuring transparency, accountability, and community input.
